We know we should lay down our burdens but for some reason we sometimes hold on to them.
At church, a good message was shared. An open call for prayer was given, and the encouragement to pray for one another. It seemed nobody moved. Looking around, it was either everyone had it together or people are not willing to share their burden. The mentality that says nobody needs or wants to know my business needs to be brought down. So many carry so many burdens, they are often too tired to do much of anything except to try and stay alive. Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matt 11:28)
Jesus can handle everything we carry and more. After all, he defeated death at the cross. So, as the service ends, I turn to a person and after making small talk, asked if I could pray for him. He said yes. When asked what to pray for, the burden was revealed.
It really doesn't make sense that we cone to church with burdens and weighed down by the stress of life and walk out the same way we came in. This is a whole other thought to explore but really, if we can't put our burden down at the foot of the cross, the scripture must be true when it says we are to help bear another's burden. May a challenge area to probe in our own life is why we are hesitant to help others in their distress. Fair enough, some of us are so weighed down, we probably should lay down those things in our own life first.
Let's choose to believe and live out the scripture today.
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
We are one body, and together we will pray for the broken, the lost and the hurting. Together, we will bear the burdens of others, while praising Jesus and thanking Him for the love and peace He provides. We are called to bear the burdens of others, but not alone!
Please, I plead to myself and any reader, take a moment, trust Jesus, and believe him at his word. He will help you. If we cant let go on our own, find a trusted friend to pray with you. We share with one another and we can lay down the things holding us down.
I pray for grace to abound and we be reminded God's mercy is new each day. May we choose to lay down our burdens. May we praise Jesus for the love and peace he provides.
